Ten Hard Steps to Humility

Timeless Truth

Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth. Numbers 12:3 NIV

Thoughtful Wisdom

:”Humility is the solid foundation of all virtues.”  – Confucius

“The only wisdom we can hope to acquire is the wisdom of humility.”  – T.S. Eliot

“It was pride that changed angels into devils;  it is humility that makes men as angels.”  –              Augustine of Hippo

“Humility is not thinking less of yourself;  it’s thinking of yourself less.”  – C. S. Lewis

Treasured Gifts

* The awe-inspiring cosmos created and sustained by the omnipotent God

* The Sovereign God engineering my circumstances

* The choice I have the privilege to make–humility instead of humiliation

* The awareness that God is totally, eternally, irrevocably responsible for everything

* Heaven-given skills and talents

* The reminders of the Holy Spirit, cautioning me to exercise self-discipline

* The voice of experience, quietly teaching me how to live wisely

* The mirror of God’s Word, pointing out my personal character flaws

* The kindness and patience of God, motivating me to treat others similarly

* The perfect example of Christ inspiring me to practice downward mobility

Today’s Affirmation

Since there are no easy steps to humility, by grace I will take ten difficult steps–

I will respect God,  submit to His Sovereignty,  practice downward mobility,

relax in His Presence,  conduct a realistic assessment of His gifts,

exercise self-discipline,  take advice,  refuse to project my character flaws on others,

watch my motives,  and imitate Christ’s example.
