Words to Live By

Timeless Truth

In the evening you will have meat to eat, and in the morning you will be filled with bread. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God.  Exodus 16:12 NLT

Thoughtful Wisdom

“Without Thy sunshine and Thy rain, We could not have the golden grain.
Without Thy love we’d not be fed. We thank Thee for our daily bread.” – Anonymous

“I thank Thee for a daily task to do, For books that are my ships with golden wings.
For mighty gifts let others offer praise–Lord, I am thanking Thee for little things.”
          – Anonymous

“Some people always sigh in thanking God.” – Elizabeth Barrett Browning

“A thankful heart is not only the greatest virtue, but the parent of all other virtues..”
          – Cicero

     “Rest and be thankful.” – Inscription on stone seat in the Scottish Highlands;
title of one of Wordsworth’s poems

Treasured Gifts

     *  God’s abundant provision, even in the wilderness

*  The privilege of enjoying the pleasure of Christ’s company

*  Bread today and the promise of bread tomorrow

*  Faith’s dusk dinners and hope’s dawn breakfasts–hors d’oeuvres to whet our appetite
for the heavenly banquet of love

Today’s Affirmation

However desperate my situation, I will not bellyache, but trust that it is not God-forsaken. Realizing who set my table, I will bow my head and say grace.
